Capacity charges apply to any Half Hourly (HH) meters, covering the cost to ensure your electricity meter can handle peak energy output. This capacity, or kVA, is typically set by the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) when the meter is installed.
Your kVA can be adjusted to match your actual energy usage. By analysing your HH data, we can identify your peak demand and the gap between that and your current kVA. If your peak usage is lower than the set kVA, we can request a reduction through the DNO and your supplier, leading to immediate savings on your next bill. Conversely, if your peak usage exceeds the current kVA, increasing it can prevent costly excess charges—often up to four times the standard rate.
For customers whose energy contracts are with us (or pending activation), we offer this service free of charge. Simply let us know if you’d like a review, and we’ll handle the data request from your supplier to get started.
